May days

I’m not really a fan of holidays obviously  marketed for the sales industry to up their profit margins.   Valentines is nothing more than a make it or break it for flower stores and chocolate makers.   Boxing day is basically a way for most stores to rid themselves of last seasons stock while convincing you that you’ve scored an amazing deal!

Mothers day on the other hand is pure, unselfish, deserving gratitude and frankly…?  it should be a public holiday.:)

We had a bbq at my mother’s house and it was also a celebration for my 2 little nieces, Steve and my moms birthday.

May is a crazy month.

The girls suggested I make the same chocolate M&M cake that Alex just had in March.

That was my plan until Ms. Alex was attacked by the stomach flu.   Piping takes time and patience, neither of which I had with running up and down the stairs for her visits to the bathroom.   I ended up quickly just covering the cake with 4 bags of candy and calling it a day.  Not my finest cake making moment.

See what I mean?

Oh well.  These cousins didn’t seem to mind.

Ugly birthday cakes, yummy veggie burgers and even a touch of gastro makes for a perfect Mothers day.

How was your Sunday?

I had the best mother’s day yet. 8 guys sent their wives to VOLT (Top Chef Runner Up Bryan Voltaggio’s restaurant – google it) for drinks/appetizers, while they prepared a huge feast for us: It was delicious and such a nice idea. It was up there in the top 5 mother’s days for me, for sure.

You sure one of those guys wasn’t a women? That sounds like so much fun! Maybe Gary can get Steve to do that for us when you visit? umm….yeah right :)

more than just a touch of gastro actually – Brina and Carly were up ALL night throwing up and the other thing (I won’t say because this is a food blog). The first cake does look much better though lol.
