Day 1

December 29, 2010

[klenz]  Show IPAverb, cleansed, cleans·ing.

–verb (used with object)

to make clean.

to remove by or as if by cleaning: to cleanse sin from the soul.

–verb (used without object)

to become clean.
As according the dictionary.
Well I’m not dirty and I don’t believe my insides are either so cleanse is a an odd way to describe what I am about to begin.

de·tox  (d-tksInformal

tr.v. de·toxedde·tox·ingde·tox·es

To subject to detoxification.

n. (dtks)

A section of a hospital or clinic in which patients are detoxified.

[Short for detoxify.]

As according to the dictionary

I have no intention of going to the hospital.  People complaining of muffin tops only congest the emergency wards.  They just take up valuable space for real emergencies.

That’s why I am going to continue referring to it as Cleaning house.

No coffee, no alcohol, no sugar, no flour and very little fat. That’s the plan.

Just typing, no coffee brought a little drop of sweat down my forehead.    Breathe deeply.

Instead I am having this.

7:45 a.m:            1/4 lemon  in hot water.

10:00 a.m:         1/4 lemon in green tea

10:30 a.m:          1 grapefruit, 2 slices honey-dew melon, 4 strawberries, 1 small peach, 1 bunch of spinach, 1 tsp Spirulina, 1 tsp glutamine, 1 tsp psyllium, ice and 1/2 cup 100% pomegranate juice.  Blend into a shake

This made a lot! tomorrow I will make it smaller.  I feel water-logged.  It was very good though, refreshing and no spinach taste at all.

2 p.m:  8 medium tomatoes, big bunch of fresh basil, 2 cloves garlic, the juice of 1/2 a lime, 1 bunch of spinach, 1 white onion and cayenne pepper.  Blend until creamy and heat half of it in the microwave for a tomato soup.

I just realized that this looks exactly like breakfast!  It’s not I promise, the basil and spinach make everything look like baby diarrhea.       Even though I admit to being a salt abuser, this had none and it was actually pretty darn good!  I added some chopped broccoli to the soup for something to chew on.

7 p.m. 1 large bowl spiraled zucchini topped with the other half of the tomato soup from lunch with 1 diced tomato and  mushrooms with a sprinkle of brewers yeast.

If you don’t have a spiralizer, you can use a vegetable peeler and make long strips with the zucchini or simply cut it into long thin strips.  Brewers yeast is often used by vegans since it is a good source of Vitamin B which they may be lacking from no meat consumption.  It has a nice salty flavor almost like parmesan cheese.    I often sprinkle it on roasted veggies or pasta sauces.

So all in all, today was a bit challenging and by the end of the evening I was craving bread.  Toast and peanut butter to be exact.  I also did not work out today so I’m still not sure how the energy level is affected.   I will say that my biggest worry was coffee but after the green tea and lemon, I completely forgot about it.

Have you made any New Years resolutions?
