Thankful in Sidney

November 12, 2010

We’ve had an eventful night.  7:30 p.m. arrived and still no Steve.   Since he arrives home normally no later than 6:30 p.m. I was a bit worried.  I worry because he insists on riding his bicycle to work no matter where we live and refuses any form of public transport including his own car.   Odd I know, but that’s the way it’s always been.  Sydney is particularly treacherous for bikers as the roads are narrow and street parking is your only choice for most people.   No bike paths here.  Long story short, a bikers worst fear is someone opening their car door without looking.   So guess what happened?  Someone opened their car do without looking.

Medical diagnosis?  A severed tendon in the pinky finger along with a cracked bone and an 8 -10 week recovery.     By the time I got to the hospital the blood loss had lessoned  but still very shocking.  The man was void of color and in my eyes….in need of a good meal.  Surprisingly when we arrived home he was ravenous and lucky for him, dinner was ready (4 hours ago:)).    I was going to do a bean blog but with this recipe bump in the road, I’ll just post the pretty picture and skip the bean lovin for another time.

Black eyed peas with pesto dressing

I’m going to post the recipe this weekend.  Steve loved it but I suspect he had some trauma hunger going on because he proceeded to eat 5 chocolate cereal bars (saved for the girls lunches).  That was a lot even for him!

OMG! Poor Steve. I hope he is doing ok. How is he getting to work now? I hope recovery doesn’t mean staying at home in bed?! How many lives does he have left now?

Yes I’m afraid he will have to be at least 1 week and the worst part? the Dr. didn’t give me any meds to deal with it. I think he only has 3 left.

And is Steve in a lot of pain. I hope the bike is stored away for bicycle paths only from now on.
