I may have found the Farmers market for the summer on Saturday. The St. Albert’s market which is only a 10 min. drive for me is the largest in Edmonton and it was full of fun and different products including jewelry, condiments, clothing and yes even vegetables! Each week there are noticeably more vendors selling their organic veggies so I will just have to be patient as each new crop arrives. This week once again it was mostly tomatoes, baby cucumbers, spinach and some red and yellow peppers. Normally I’ll either pack a light breakfast or lunch depending on what time it is but this Saturday I couldn’t resist having a veggie dog because since posting about memories of Vendors in Toronto I’ve had hot dogs on the brain! It was as good as I remember and they even had sauerkraut which I added a ton of mustard to. Problem now? I have sauerkraut on the brain so in the strange chain of events I present to you last nights dinner!
I found these veggie burgers at our local organic market and decided to give them a try in my constant quest to find the perfect veggie burger. I think I did it! Mountain veggie burgers have 4 patties per box and although they seemed very thin to me, they are actually quiet large and fit into a thin bun perfectly. These would have been great bbq’d or grilled but I was lazy and just put them in a 425 degree oven until a bit crispy.
Unlike many ‘burgers’ I’ve tried, this one had a crispy texture on the outside and still soft and not too chewy on the inside. It had so much flavor that I didn’t even have to add salt and two or three different condiments just to make it taste like something. I just added a bit of my habanero mustard and of course the sauerkraut that I’ve been thinking about! This is definitely my new summer favorite!
